About Us
The Algonquin Academy of Dance offers a variety of dance classes and programs to students ages three to adult.
1.) Combination Class- Girls and boys ages three and up may attend combination dance classes covering three subjects. Ballet and Tap are always included; younger students have Tumbling while older students have Jazz as their third subject. Advanced female dancers will add Pointe work as to their ballet studies.
2.) Hip Hop- Classes are offered to students, ages seven and up.
3.) Pom Pom- Classes are offered to students ages three and up with the requirement that pom students must also be currently enrolled in a combination dance class here at the Academy
Classes meet once a week for 45, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.
Our program is progressive, building on what is learned not only from year to year, but also from week to week. Because of this, regular attendance is extremely important. Students are placed in classes by ability level and age. During the year, instructors evaluate each individual’s progress in dance and place students for the following year based on classroom performance, talent, potential, ability, and maturity. WE CARE VERY MUCH ABOUT OUR STUDENTS and encourage parents to be aware of their child’s progress.
We encourage at home practice and provide a variety of materials (CDs, vocabulary sheets, coloring pages and dance notes) to help students reinforce what they are learning in the classroom at home. Students are welcome to videotape classroom work or dances to help them practice.
We are pleased to perform when requested at community events. We would appreciate our clients making us aware of local events that would benefit from the addition of our talented students! Advanced students who are interested in attending dance conventions or competitions in the area can see their teacher for more information. We most recently added Walt Disney World to our performance list!

We are very excited about the coming season. The Academy has enjoyed the opportunity to share our talented students with various audiences such as Great America’s Dance Fest, our annual dance recital, local scholarship pageants and Walt Disney World. The Academy regularly participates in community events such as the Founders Day, Summer Sunset, Coon Creek Country Day, and Settler Day Parades. We anticipate continued opportunities for performance throughout the year and would love if you know of any we could perform at.
Our dance program includes combination classes in ballet/tap/tumbling (for our younger students), and ballet/tap/jazz (for our older students), pom pom classes, and hip hop classes. Our dancers are able to showcase what they have learned throughout the year in a winter performance and our annual dance recital held at the Hemmens Auditorium in Elgin.
We continue to be thankful for the opportunity to work with such talented and dedicated students and to be part of such a family oriented community.

Combination Dance Classes are the main thrust of our program. Younger students attend a one hour weekly class consisting of twenty minutes dedicated to each subject: Tap, Ballet, and Tumbling. As the student advances in our progressive program, the combination class becomes one of Tap, Ballet, and Jazz. The length of the class extends to ninety minutes and eventually to a two hour class. Advanced female dancers will progress to ballet en pointe.
Adult Combination Classes provide an opportunity for both beginner and experienced dancers to take part in a weekly Tap, Ballet, and Jazz class. Our adults enjoy participating in a program specifically designed for the more mature dancer. It is a chance for adults to learn dance technique while benefiting from the exercise aspects of dancing in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
Hip Hop Classes allow students the excitement of learning a dance style that combines jazz and break dancing to create its own art form. These fast paced forty five minute classes are available for 9 year old children to adults. Students are given the opportunity to move to the music in their own distinctive style.
Pom Pom Classes are a great way for dancers to expand their talents in synchronized moves and routines. Our younger pom classes meet once a week for forty five minutes, while our more advanced pommies attend a weekly hour long class. During our regular school year (September-May), we require that participants in our Pom Pom classes to be enrolled in our combinations class to ensure that the Pom time can be geared toward learning to work with poms, understanding formations, and learning routines based on skills mastered in dance class. During the summer months we open the Pom program to non-dancers as well.
